Detox…
Oh boy. I’m doing a super healthy eating regimen with my brother Mark. This is only the first day and already I’ve developed an extreme craving for something fatty, meaty, and delicious. The problem is that even though I feel full, I don’t feel the satisfaction that comes with stuffing yourself full of meat and carbohydrates. Since my two favorite foods are carbs and cheese, I’m feeling deprived. When I open my refrigerator it looks like this. I’m more accustomed to this.
Sometimes I have to figure out another way into a composition. With so many different projects on my plate, I am trying to discover a way to work on several compositions simultaneously without them influencing each other. My teacher suggested that I draw a picture in order to get a sense of form and direction. I usually just start composing and let my intuition an training guide me through the process, but having a template to begin with will hopefully strengthen my concept of form and development. These aren’t anything I would put on my wall, but it was fun just to drop my pen down and see what the inside of my brain was doing.

Recital
My recital is coming up in March! I’m working very hard to get the music where I want it to be. I am so excited to be playing the music that I have selected as it has required me to take a large leap in my technique and practice regimen. The compositions that I am working on will also be a leap in a different direction than my previous work. The appreciation for sound itself has given me a new and exciting tool to integrate into my existing sense of pitch and rhythm. I’m going to the gym, then to practice.
